• Just started playing around with Gluon app. Nice work @vincent.

  • This little guy cracks me up.

  • The Avatar 2 trailer is dropping soon.

I remember enjoying the movie in the theater but I only saw it once and pretty much forgot about it ever since.

Is this a 🎥 that needs a sequel? Unless the reviews are amazing, I don’t see any reason to go see it.

  • I can’t believe I’m wearing a winter hat in Bucks County in May.

  • How many hours have you spent working in VR today?

  • I wish I could stream Youtube Music from Apple Watch untethered from my iPhone. I would love to not carry my phone while on a run.

  • I’m pretty ambivalent to the Twitter sale. I never directly post to Twitter anymore. Instead, I post to micro.blog and it’s reposted to Twitter and Mastodon for me.

  • I wonder if Micro.blog is going to see an uptick in new accounts this week?

@manton if you’re not already, you should jump on the #RIPTwitter hashtag to POSSE.

  • Just realized the Michael Schur and Greg Daniels, who worked together on Parks and Recreation, both went on to do shows with themes of death and the afterlife. 🤔📺

  • Considering how much revenue is generated via IAP. You’d think Apple would do a better job around tooling for developers to test IAP code.

It’s getting better but still needs a lot of work.

  • I love to automate my life. If you ask my wife she might say I love it too much.

Of course I’m a fan of the Automators podcast. It’s an Apple centric automation podcast.

I am compiling a list of all the apps they mention on the show. so that I don’t loose track of them.

  • God this stuff coming out of Bucha 🇺🇦 is horrifying.

Pres. Zelensky gave a really powerful speech yesterday. Everyone should read it.

  • Can I ween myself off Amazon?

I just read through a thread from @DanPriceSeattle on how Amazon treats its workers.

It got me thinking about how much I rely on Amazon. I probably don’t need to shop for everything there but I admin I do it out of convenience.

Can I actually ween myself off Amazon? The first step is to find alternative retailers for the things I buy the most.

    Books - Kobo

I shop at a local bookstore in my town whenever I can but I prefer digital books. Luckily, they have a relationship with Kobo Books so they get some money whenever I make a purchase.

With the app Calibre and some plugins, I can load those books onto my Kindle if I want to.

    Household Goods - Target

I’m doing some cursory reviews of warehouse worker conditions and it seems like Target is better.

    Electronics - B&H Photo

B&H has more than just camera equipment.

  • How to track productivity with Apple Shortcuts

I’ve been digging into Apple Shortcuts and built this Shortcut to help me with heads down time.

It does a couple of things here.

    1. It blocks 20 minutes on my calendar. This lets me look back and see how much heads down time I had.
    2. It turns on Do Not Disturb for 20 minutes
    3. It also turns on “Focus” for 20 minutes in the cool macOS App Focus.

You can try the Shortcut here.

Does anyone else use Shortcuts for cool automations?

  • If you use Apple CarPlay don’t forget you can adjust the order of the apps that display on screen via settings on your iPhone.

  • Finally 📺 remake of West Side Story. I get that Spielberg needed to make changes to make it his own but I disagreed with most of the decisions.

Not sure how I’d feel about the movie if I wasn’t familiar with orig.

  • I like Michael Giacchino’s score to The Batman. It’s way to foreboding and intense to play as background music while working though.

  • It would be great if I could move @onedrive folder to an external HDD on macOS. Can’t seem to figure out a way to do that

    – EDIT –

Mea culpa - you can. Just need to unlink, logout, login, set new folder.

Here’s an article that talks about how it all works. techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/micros…

  • Kind of a bummer that the Apple Magic Trackpad doesn’t have a serviceable battery.

  • Home automation saved my butt this weekend.

I have a smallish home automation setup which consists of lights, Google Assistants, and some cheap Aqara water sensors all pulled together via the excellent Home Assistant project.

Last night, at around 11:30, my Google Assistant tells me there is water near my water heater. I go downstairs to discover a burst pipe in the ceiling. Shut off the water mains and am awaiting a call back from a plumber.

I can’t imagine what a mess that would have been w/o the sensors.

Best money I’ve spent in a long time.

  • Watching Free Guy. It’s a TRON reboot.

    That’s not a bad thing!

  • Why does the Xbox Button open Launchpad on my Mac?

I’m using an Xbox Bluetooth controller on macOS Monterrey. Everytime I press the Xbox button the Launchpad opens.

It turns out that there is an Options menu under the Bluetooth devices System Preferences pane.

The relevant setting is Home Long Press. It defaults to Launchpad. Change it to “Off” and the Xbox button works correctly.

  • Friday night… am I watching TV? No. Video games? No.

Instead, I’m using ML/NLP to analyze ingredients in > 15k recipes clipped by @GetClipDish users.

Top ingredients? Salt, Garlic, Sugar, Olive Oil.

  • I’ve been doom-scrolling endlessly since last Thursday. Time to get back to work. I’ve reinstalled the app Focus on my desktop and removed Twitter from my phone.

  • Just came home to my dog looking down at a shredded ziploc baggie. Should I be worried?
